Your tax-deductible donation will help protect iconic and landmark restaurants
Help ensure a future for restaurants that have stood the test of time.
Preserving these icons has never been more important. The uncertainty of the world today has placed tremendous pressure on historic, independent restaurants—providing an opportunity for you to truly make a difference in a time of need.

As many as 85% of independent restaurants could close by the end of this year because of the coronavirus pandemic.
— According to a report commissioned by the Independent Restaurant Coalition
Every historic restaurant has a story to tell
The people. The food. The heritage.
Found in big cities and Main Street communities, urban centers and college towns, rural enclaves and suburban locales, these landmark locations span the country. They remain cornerstones of their communities - restaurants, taverns, walk-ups, diners. Many are family owned and operated, handed down from generation to generation. They contribute to the local culture and add irreplaceable flavor to the national landscape.
50+ years of creating memorable moments
Serving generations of customers and a lifetime of memories, these restaurants remain a constant in a world of constant change. Whether it’s a local diner or white tablecloth location, they each have earned a spot on the NCHR registry—providing a touchstone for locals and a must-experience destination for visitors.
What does National Conservancy for Historic Restaurants do?
NCHR serves as a resource for historic restaurants as well as consumers. We identify and designate historic restaurants for the national NCHR registry. We provide national, regional, and local recognition and promotion to generate awareness and create sustainable growth. And we celebrate the individuality of these iconic landmarks.
